Children with Red House books

Every three months the students at the Grammar School eagerly await the Red House brochures. Although Cyprus has many English bookshops, a great variety of books is not always available for young adult readers. Students at our school find the selection offered by Red House to be diverse and most of the books appeal to their age group. Parents agree that through Red House, children have the opportunity to purchase quality books at an inexpensive price. Not only can students order books for themselves, but they can also choose books for their younger siblings as the brochures include books for different ages.

“At our school, the Red House Book Club works in coordination with the English Department..”

At our school, the Red House Book Club works in coordination with the English Department. English teachers distribute the brochures to their classes and spend time encouraging students to select books that interest them as well as emphasise the importance and value of reading. Student representatives of each class assist teachers in collecting orders. Our own English Book Club members place the orders for the school and select the free books which will eventually be contributed to the library. Students from different classes also give recommendations regarding which books they would like to see in the library. Over the past years, The Red House scheme has been and continues to be very popular and successful.

After orders are placed, students avidly await their book orders to arrive. The books are separated by class and individual order and are finally distributed in their English lessons. Many students choose books which are used for their English book reports, which gives them the opportunity to choose books they are interested in. Students enjoy choosing from a wide range: classics to modern stories. Our school Library Club is very thankful for the number of books we have been able to add this year.
